Who is Cycling Reese?

Hi, My name is Tim and I'm a cycling addict.

It all started when my dad bought a GT mountain bike when I was a kid.  He started riding it around and found an offroad trail behind a Kmart.  There he met a gentleman that has been the catalyst for our cycling careers.  I was very interested in what my dad was doing in the woods so my dad found a Cannondale F700 at a pawn shop and off I went.  For about 2 years my dad and I got involved in the sport of mountain biking.  I did a few junior races but not many.  Being a teenager I was more interested in girls and getting a job.  Once I graduated high school the bike just sat in the garage.

About 8 years later I was an adult, was married, had 2 young children.  In May 2010 I really missed the mountain bike scene and purchased a Specialized Hardrock Comp.  I rode with my brother on the local trail here in Orlando with my brother every weekend for a bit and got back into the sport.  In September 2010 I purchased a Jamis Ventura Sport to ride on the road with.  I was finally back on the 2 wheels working my way to being a cyclist.

Suddenly, life changed.  My then 7 month old son was diagnosed with infantile glaucoma and we rushed to have a surgery.  This changed our lives and we were going in and out of surgeries for months.  On top of this I had gone to a dr for a yearly evaluation and found out that I had and really bad cholesterol.  The dr told me that I needed to do something if I wanted to see my kids grow to be adults.  So, I hopped on my bike again and started riding with a local club Eastside Cycling Club.  I went from barely able to ride 20 miles in September 2011 to riding my first century (100 miles) in March 2012.  I have since gotten rid of the Jamis and got a Giant Defy Advanced 4.  My goal is to ride 2-3 times a week and try to get 120 miles a week in if work and life allows.

I am very excited to be riding a lot once again.  I will be posting about my gear research as I always want to upgrade all my bikes.  I hope you enjoy my musings.
